Tomorrow night will be the first Democratic National Debate and Bernie Sanders is reportedly changing his position on gun control and gun related violence.
Gun lobbyists couldn’t possibly know what to do with the two strongest Democrats running for the oval office: Hillary Clinton wants more gun control than Bernie Sanders, who wants to hold gun manufacturers responsible for distributing weapons to areas of the country with statistically higher gun deaths and mental problems.
Gun control has to be the sole issue on which presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders leans further right than democratic his opponents. Hailing from the great Northeast state of Vermont where gun owners aplenty have guided the senator into walk along one of the thinnest of political lines regarding gun violence, Sanders finally came clean on where he would lean when it comes to who is ultimately responsible for gun deaths.
While Sanders has always been against semi-automatic assault weapons, “guns which have no other purpose but to kill people,” he might finally earn an F score from the NRA on gun liberty, especially after telling Meet The Press’s Chuck Todd this weekend that he would take another look at gun liability since he had voted against holding gun manufacturers liable in 2005 which, some had argued. seemed a bit of a strange stance on liability considering his record of voting for the liability of airlines and restaurant owners.
This isn’t entirely shocking considering Bernie has a strong stance against high-capacity magazines and high-powered weapons. His basic position is that guns shouldn’t be banned but should be controlled to the extent of not letting them get into the hands of criminals and killers. But many gun rights advocates are Bernie supporters and it’s not rare to find them arguing that Sanders has the right idea on gun control — that is, more background checks. Is this going to cause the presidential candidate lose supporters or does he have bigger things to worry about (such as foreign policy)?
